SHISEIDO GROUP｜Donation for New Year Earthquake in Japan

Massive earthquake, tsunami and fire leave 100,000 people in difficult life. Food is mostly needed.

The cluster of earthquakes on New Year’s Day, including a magnitude 7 earthquake, and the ensuing tsunami and fires caused extensive damage in affected area in Japan. ADRA is working with other NGOs, not to leave anyone out of reach.

Close support to the survivors is needed.

To help disaster survivors in Japan

The major quake with a magnitude of 7.6 followed by the tsunami and fires killed at least 92 people and caused massive destruction. 242 are still missing, more than 33,000 are displaced and 100,000 are affected. Roads are badly damaged, some received their first rice ball and cup of miso soup for the first time on the third day after the earthquake.

The full picture of the disaster is still unclear due to difficult access and limited network connections. However, it is clear that the people there are in desperate need of immediate and long-term relief.

ADRA, an experienced international NGO is in deep communication with other organizations stationed in the affected area, is ready to support people with your help.

ADRA’s Response

• Dispatching a fully equipped emergency bus.
  The bus can be used for multi purposes. It can be a nursing room, a special room for infants and children, a room for private counseling and so on.

• Delivering healthy, ready-to-eat meals.
  From our experience with in disaster response, fiber-rich meals such as soybean-meat balls were welcomed and helped people’s health. We are preparing the relief food in cooperation with Vega-meat company.

At the same time, we are planning to conduct on site surveys to provide close assistance to those in need.

Note: When ADRA Japan receives funds for a specific purpose, up to 20% of the donation is allocated for administrative expenses. it would include donation fund management, activity reporting, fundraising. We also reallocate for activities in areas where is smaller and difficult to gather people’s attention and support.

The ratio of expenditures for activities in disaster-affected areas and developing countries was 89.6% and for administrative expenses was 10.4% in FY2021.
